What I Wear-Embracing Simplicity

10 comments:

My last post I talked about "Dressing Your Truth."
It's pretty neat, one of the keywords that describe type 4 is simple. That's so me! I used to feel bad about not wearing more jewelry, now I know if I think it's too much, it probably is.

It's cut my getting dressed time in half, seriously! Why? I think because all my items thus far go together. I pretty much I put an outfit on, jewelry, maybe some makeup and go.
It's given me an excuse to purge my closet. Painful as it was, I needed to do it. I went through my clothes and pulled anything out I haven't worn in a while, or never wore. I also donated a bunch of my jewelry that just wasn't "me."

When was the last time you purged your closet?

What I Wear-A Miracle!

10 comments:

I normally try to keep my blog free of too much personal "junk." But I would like to share a "Praise The Lord!" With all of you. My mom was diagnosed a type 2 diabetic in January 2015. We've been working with a couple doctors to get her high blood sugar under control. We found an awesome doctor (who "happens" to be the dad of my good friend who I met on a modest fashion website). He put her on a new medication to see if that would help her blood sugars come down. It worked awesome for about 3 days. Then she started having back pain, really bad, a sore throat, etc. It escalated to where she vomited and was walking around like she was drunk! The doctor asked us to come in so he could check her out. During our visit he sent us to the ER, turns out it wasn't the medication causing the problems. She was experiencing something called ketoacidosis, which if you're interested you can Google it, as it's hard to explain. Basically it's the next step before you go into diabetic acoma! Her blood sugar was very high (512!) and she has a virus. It was brought on by a combination of things; the virus, she was feeling nauseous so she stopped eating, drinking and taking her meds.
She was on an IV with insulin for two days. She's home now and I'm so grateful!

My point in sharing all this, is that God is a merciful father. I'm so grateful for wise doctors, even for the insulin she has to be on now. Because she's alive. I know she wouldn't be alive today if God hadn't orchestrated everything perfectly to get her to the ER in time. Thank you Jesus for my mama, thank you for doctors, for insulin, but most of all for your mercies.
I can tell you right now, it's easy to say "Trust God," when you're not in a situation when that's all you can do. You can believe and have faith that He will take care of you, no matter what.

What I Wear-Modesty Makes You Ashamed Of Your Body?

5 comments:

For some reason I've seen a lot of articles lately with titles something like, "Why teaching Christian modesty makes women ashamed of their bodies." These articles deeply sadden me, to say the least.

Modesty within the Christian realm has become a term that stirs varied emotions. I can totally understand that some women have been burned by churches, mean spirited people and people who are well meaning, yet out of line. Words can be hurtful, yet we throw them about with hardly a second thought.

I wanted to share my personal feelings on this. I don't ever want a single one of you to be ashamed of your body! That's actually against biblical principles (I.E-you're made in the image of God, your body is a temple, not to mention being grateful for what you have.)

God made each one of you absolutely stunning, never be ashamed of that. When we talk about modesty, it's not for the sake of hiding your body, you should treasure the amazing gift God has given you. Part of treasuring that gift is avoiding revealing every aspect of your body, partly with modest apparel. By dressing modestly you're actually showing those around you that you treasure your body, not that you're ashamed! It's like wearing a billboard that says "I respect myself and don't need to show you every curve and inch of my body."
You're a beautiful, stunning, wondrous child of God-act like it!

Do you think modesty makes you ashamed of your body?

Hey all! So I've decided I will be posting every Tuesday now. I'm hoping if I take outfit photos every Sunday, then weekly posts will be a breeze!

My family has entered the 21st century-yes, you guessed it! We got rid of the dial-up! So doing today's post was so easy! Normally photos take about an hour to load 8 photos. With the new connection? Um...under a minute?! So this is why everyone else can post faster than me! LOL! Anyway, I'll be more inclined to post if it won't take me all day!

Yes, the beautiful white background is back! I can't say I'm glad to see it, honestly I was enjoying the warm weather! (or at least my definition of warm weather!). However, as some of you may know, I decided that this year I was going to try to be happy with whatever the weather is, be it sunshine and warmth or sunshine and cold! I do have to admit that it makes a pretty darn good background. Not too distracting, yet interesting  in it's own way! I had an interesting experience coming home, almost did a 180 on a hill! Yikes!

During my workouts I wear a heart monitor and so does my older sister, we frequently push each other by asking what the other one's heart rate is at-my younger sister asked me after fish-tailing 4-5 times: "What's your heart rate at now Tasha?!" Definitely thankful that God is in control and not me!

I'm Wearing:
Brown Shirt-Thrifted $3
Scarf-Claire's $4
Skirt-Hand-me-down
Tights-?
Boots-Go Jane $20
Know how I said I was going through my closet? Well my younger sister Patience decided to as well...bad idea. We got rid of quite a bit, however we also exchanged quite a few items! It was mostly PATIENCE "Hey, I don't want this-do you?" ME: "Um...YES!" ME: "I never wear this, do you want it?" PATIENCE: "AHHH!! YES! Stop! I can't take any more, we're just switching them from my side to yours!" It did turn out okay I only ended up taking a few things and got rid of quite a few things that don't fit anymore. Believe me, closet purging is well worth the effort!

QUESTION: When was the last time you went through your clothes to get rid of some?

What I Wear-Resurrection Day Sisters + Link up!

Happy Resurrection Day everyone! Today is a reflection of all Jesus has done, as well as all He will do. I'm so grateful I'm not just going to sit in the ground when I die-aren't you?! Some serious boredom issues would eventually occur...I'm just saying...not to mention the other direction apart from Christ.

This Sunday is also a good excuse to don a pretty outfit! I'm displaying my outfit, as well as both my sisters'! Outfit specifics are below the first photo of every outfit if you're interested as well as various ramblings ..or you could just scroll through the pictures and leave a comment! ; )

{Natasha's Outfit}
I donned my eShakti dress for Easter, wearing it much the same as I did before, instead wearing my hair down, adding a petticoat for skirt volume and switching shoes! The shoe switch was a bad idea! I've worn the shoes before, however this time around they gave me horrible blisters on the sides of my toes...not too comfortable now. Seriously, I think a guy invented girls' shoes!

{Melissa's Outfit}
Melissa is wearing a dress and shrug from Maurices and high heels from Payless.

 {Patience's Outfit}
Patience is wearing a jean jacket from Vanity, dress from JcPenney, Skirt From Vanity, Boots from Herbergers

(Don't ask...I told to her to stop looking so stiff in the photos...this is what you get..)

Now it's YOUR turn! Leave a link to your Resurrection Day/Easter outfit in a comment!

Firstly, I apologize for my absence! I've had a nasty cold (or allergies) or something for the past week! I'm just now feeling well enough to get dressed! ;) I've pretty much been living in my PJs, which don't make for very nice outfit posts! For whatever reason, this year the colds/flu/allergies have been knocking me out pretty good! I seriously just felt well enough yesterday to clean out my car and exercise! Yes, I took off exercising for 7 days! Pretty insane for me! As some of you may know, I've made exercise a non-negotiable part of my life, but flip side, it's hard not to be able to do it for that long!

I went for a sort of "boho chic" look here! I started with the dress/skirt (a skirt which has been passed around our house, finally landing in my closet as a dress!). It was too short to wear by itself, so I added another skirt underneath for length. I thought about wearing my white skirt, but it didn't look right. I'm not particularly pleased with the hemline of the blue skirt, it's incredibly odd! But the color went well-you can't have everything!

I paired the floral dress and blue skirt with my blue jean jacket, trusty faux leather moccasins, tan beret and blingy necklace. I also added a belt to the ensemble to pull everything together. Without the belt, the outfit was too bulky and "free" looking.
I should also mention that this is the first time this that I went...*drum roll please*-barelegged! YES! It's starting to be that time of year already-that time of year when I realize how pale my legs have gotten over the Winter! ;)

Have you gone "barelegged" yet?

When at all possible, I like to respond to my readers comments privately, however, I thought this one would be something other people might be interested in.

Andie Asked:"How do you care for your long hair? (shampoo, conditioner, etc) Andie :)"

I'm far from the healthiest person, however I like to keep the food I eat and the products I put on my hair/body as natural as possible. In the last few years I did a little research on shampoo, coming to the conclusion that I no longer wanted to use shampoos with sulfates. The sulfates in regular shampoo actually strip you hair! Which can lead to thinning, unhealthy hair. So I switched to sulfate free shampoo. I currently use: L'oreal Reconstruct sulfate free shampoo and conditioner, Organix shampoo and conditioner and Renpure shampoo and conditioner. All are sulfate free and made of natural ingredients. They are a bit expensive (we only buy shampoo when it's on sale, or we have a coupon). A great way to get shampoos cheap is to look out for mail-in-rebates hanging on the bottle. I've gotten several Renpure shampoos and conditioners free by using mail in rebates.

I also think that vitamins and a good diet are essential for caring for your hair. I used to take Folic acid and fish oil, but switched to a multi-vitamin that includes folic acid and many others.

It's important to keep long hair conditioned and healthy, I try to do a mayo hair mask (basically you smear mayo all over your hair and let it sit for 20-30 minutes under a plastic bag on your hair) every so often. I also really like the L'oreal intensive night repair creme-it doesn't leave your hair oily at all! Surprising since it feels super oily going on. I also try to drink plenty of water (this also helps skin in addition to hair).

Being gentle with your hair is important, combing it whenever possible, not brushing it while wet, etc. Keeping it trimmed when the ends become split or scraggly is also important (though painful if you're trying to grow it out!).
Hope this answers your question!

Anything my readers can add from your personal experiences?

What I Wear-1940's Hat And Mustard Yellow Skirt

So I've begun to wonder, are any of you out there artists? I don't mean "do you paint like Max Lucado?" I mean amature artists? beginners? Experienced? Dabblers? I would consider myself to be an amature artist. I've really been into pencil portraits of late, and I'm enjoying myself. I even set up an ART BLOG awhile back. My reasoning behind asking this: If there are quite a few of us, I was wondering if anyone of you would like to share bits of wisdom? I know personally that I always benefit from other people in this area. Even if you don't draw, what's your opinion of a certain piece of artwork? What areas need work? What could improve them? I'm also on Prisma Color Art Gallery I really enjoy looking at other people's art. I'm always on the lookout for art blogs (with appropriate content).
I've also wondered if anyone would be interested in art class/tutorial type of thing?

Would anyone like a picture sketched? It needs to be fairly close to the face, and a clear photo.

I'm wearing: Black 1940's Style Hat Vanity ($18) Black Maurices Cardigan With Beads ($4) Thrifted Mustard Yellow Skirt ($7.50) Mary Jane Shoes 6PM ($20)
QUESTION: Would you be interested in art class/tutorials (Free of course!)?
