What I Wear-Valentines Day 2012!

Since today is Valentines Day, I thought I'd share on a topic I feel strongly about-emotional purity. Most people who speak on purity focus on the physical part of purity. While physical purity is very important, I think emotional purity is more important. What do I mean by that? Every sin starts with a thought, a temptation. Murder starts with an angry thought, then progressively moves on to acting on that thought-actually committing murder! In the same way, physical purity doesn't stand a chance unless we're constantly keeping our thoughts (our emotional purity) under constant supervision. If we let our thoughts run away with us, it will eventually lead to succumbing physically.
I know what you're thinking, "Oh, Natasha! That's crazy talk! Just because I day dream about a boy doesn't mean I'm compromising my purity!" But it does! In reality, every time we allow a thought to linger just a bit too long, we allow it to take seed in our hearts. If we don't dig deep and rip that seed it out, it will grow. We water the thought by allowing it to stay. Don't! Allow the Lord to use His special tools to dig up those thoughts, and toss them in the garbage. Perhaps you're still very young (12 maybe?) and all the thought includes is "Hey, that boy is kinda cute..." don't allow it to go any further! It's okay to think someone's good looking or nice, it's what we do after that thought. Do we allow it to continue on, eventually leading to you marrying him in the future? I have news, you're most likely not going to marry him! (sorry!) But that's the truth!
Where guys are visual, girls are most definitely emotional! I've read somewhere (can't remember where) that a girl goes from thinking a boy is cute, to liking boy, to marrying the boy someday, in approximately 2.5 seconds! While not scientific, it's pretty accurate. Unfortunately, we don't have very many examples today of emotional purity. TV shows portray girls going from one guy to the next, seemingly "falling in love" with all of them. Where do the relationships lead? Nowhere. It ends with the girl getting dumped, heart broken. And the cycle repeats. My challenge to you is this: break the cycle! Take control of your thought life, your emotional purity. Right now, today, Valentines Day. Commit to keeping your thought life pure. Any time you have the temptation to keep a thought, think about Philippians 4:8-I'm going to be mean and make you look it up for yourself.

The Bible is an amazing resource of answers. No, it doesn't have every specific answer (I.E smoking) but it really does, it just might not mention the topic by name.

What If I've already messed up?
"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9

Why Should I Keep Emotionally Pure?
"Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life"
Proverbs 4:23

Having A Hard Time Waiting for "Mr. Right"?

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7

I Haven't Messed Up!
"If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us." 1 John 1:8

I know today can be hard for some people (read "singles"). But take heart! You're not alone, you have a Savior who is waiting with open arms to receive you. Don't get discouraged because "he" hasn't showed up yet, or because you don't have any prospects. You only need one guy, so don't worry about the other 100 guys who aren't up to your standards. Wait for the one God has for you, I know Mr. Right will be exactly what you need. How do I know that? Because God loves you more than anyone else loves you, He wants the best for you! Happy Valentines Day!

Have you committed to emotional/physical purity?

  1. Lovely outfit, Natasha! :-) I love the red tights.

I was a pretty strong believe in emotional purity once upon a time. I still think it is a wise idea and should be taught and thought about as much as we dwell on physical purity. But at the same time, for me (personally!!), I was really not trying to stay pure, I was just trying not to get hurt. And by constantly keeping my emotions in check I eventuality started to get very cold and unfeeling. It wasn't a pleasant place I was heading and God convicted me that even more than concentrating on staying pure, I needed to just trust him. That he was in control of my life and my relationships! And also that life will always hold some pain, we can't always avoid it. But thankfully we have God and he helps us through it.

Like I said, this was just the case for me personally. And I just like to caution girls to stay balanced!! :-) But anyways, the bottom line is YES I believe in emotional purity! It is a smart idea!! :-)

  2. I like this post! ^^ it made me feel good to start my day (a little late...I slept in!) with such comforting words from Scripture! I used to daydream about guys almost incessantly (though I only went through to dating, not marriage), and recently I decided that it is not only a waste of time to daydream about a guy I hardly know and have little likelihood of ever going out with, but it's taking my heart away from much more important things, like my Savior. And so now, whenever I see a cute guy, I will say he's cute, and leave it at that. I trust God to send the right guy my way when it's time.(:

And I love your skirt, btw!(:

  4. Cute outfit.
I agree with you on emotional purity. Have you read the book 'It's (not that) Complicated'? It's a great book that talks about these same things. Even though I already believed quite a bit what the book taught, it was very encouraging too.

  6. Good post, I never thought of thinking like that as being wrong, but I can see now how it is. But it seems so hard to stop. I pray Jesus can help me with this now.
