What I Wear-Voting

Since election is a little less than two weeks away, I thought it would be appropriate to talk...politics. But don't worry, I'm not going to name any fingers or point any names (sorry, couldn't resist-Pirates Of The Caribbean quote...) No, but seriously-this post isn't about my personal voting opinion. I thought it would be a good time to share some Bible verses on government and authority. Regardless of who wins the Presidential election, half the country is going to be mad. Common knowledge, accept it!

But I find this verse very comforting:

  • "Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God." Romans 13:1

Basically, this verse means that God is control. Period. The people who are in authority over us are there for a reason. We may not like what they do, or what they stand for, but God has appointed them for that particular office and position. After the election is over, regardless of who wins, they're in authority over us. We're to show them respect, even if we don't agree with them. Unless something goes directly against God's word, we should obey.
So, because God is in control, we shouldn't vote. He's in control, so whoever wins, wins! Not true. Check out this verse:

  • "Choose for your tribes wise, understanding, and experienced men, and I will appoint them as your heads." Deuteronomy 1:13

So we're supposed to choose who governs us. It might not end up being who we wanted, but we did our part. This will be my first year to vote (since I turned 18 in May). I'm excited! Call me naive/immature/pat me on the head, but I am. I want to do my part, including in the local arena. So I guess what I'm saying is: don't get discouraged. VOTE! Don't worry about who wins, vote for the person you believe should be in authority, and then accept whomever wins. VOTE!
QUESTION: How many of you are going to/able to vote?

  1. cute outfit! I can't believe you already have snow! Here we just have a lot of hail so far, haha.

That's actually really funny...I was studying the same thing today for school! My professor put together an outline of what the Scriptures have to say about government, and how they relate to us today. I spent about an hour or so going through the different verses, and I had some good realizations about my role as a citizen. I like that second verse you shared, though! That one was not in the outline, but I will definitely add it to my notes.

I am ridiculously excited to vote. I get excited every time I get a new ballot in the mail, like, "Whoo! I get to make my voice heard!" And then...what I vote against usually goes through and vice versa, but I know it's still hugely important. And we get to vote for president this coming month! :D

Thanks for your comment on my blog! Haha, I know EXACTLY how your sister feels. I get super attached to all the characters, and when they have to leave it's like, "Nooooo, don't go!!" After watching the first Doctor "die", I didn't watch the show again for like a month. :P Then I finally started watching it again, and I loved the new Doctor. And the next one too.(:

  3. I won't be 18 until March, so I can't vote, but my class is having a voting thing and we are voting on our state propositions and for the president. Our votes may not count but it will be kind of cool. ;)

  4. I've already mailed my ballot in! It's nice to have it over with and not have to drag little kids along with me in those crowded lines.

  5. Great thoughts! People (myself included) tend to lose hope when it comes to political matters and forget that God is in control--even when it doesn't make any sense!
I just got my ballot in the mail last week, and am definitely looking forward to voting :)
    Blessings,
    Hannah =)

  6. You look all ready for Winter, Natasha! Love your outfit. :-) The sweater shrug is really adorable. I WISH I could be voting, I feel pretty strong about it. But I forgot to register and living overseas I just ran out of time. I am very curious to see who will win though! It is in God's hands. Great post. :-)

  7. I can't vote as I'm Canadian - though boy do I wish I could. I've definitely got my eyes glued to it though - I think it comes from being a political science student who has always had an interest in American politics.

    Also, cute outfit.

  8. Great outfit! It's nice that you have the snow and we don't. It seems like we just got done with winter which lasts nine months. You should wear that tan skirt again. Haven't seen that outfit in awhile. Love your blog. I look forward to see what is going on in your world.
