What I Wear-Casual...Wednesday

What I Wear-Hoodie-Thrifted, Dress-Thrifted, Skirt-Thrifted, Boots-Vanity

I heard an awesome song on the radio by Hawk Nelson called "Words". The lyrics
"Words can build you up
Words can break you down
Start a fire in your heart
Or put it out

Let my words be life
Let my words be truth
I don't want to say a word
Unless it points the world back to You
really jumped out at me. I'm sure most of you have experienced the hurt words can bring. I'm not really sure what the thought process of "sticks and stones break your bones, words will never hurt you" came from-really? I've had numerous experiences where words were almost as painful as someone beating me up. The temptation to throw back hurtful words at the other person is always there. I challenge you to read those lyrics again and think about them. Our words should point back to Jesus! Our words have super-powers, the ability to totally destroy someone, or change their lives for the better. So here's a challenge, the next time you're tempted to hurt someone with your words, think twice and remember those lyrics. Also check out 1 Timothy 4:12-great verse to memorize!
QUESTION: So, sticks and stones? Or words? Which hurt more?

  1. Very cute and casual (yet still feminine) outfit! I really like it!

Words, every time. I've had some very hurtful things said to me and they stay longer than physical pain. God CAN heal that hurt, it can just take a while sometimes.

    Good thoughts! God bless!

  3. Yay for thrifting! I love the pink. :)

And I agree, words are far more powerful. A woman I know, who had left a physically abusive marriage for her own safety, told me her husband's hurtful words did deeper, more lasting, damage to her than any of the violence.

Rachael makes a good point. God can heal this hurt, even if it's a slow process, but we'll probably need some help from kind people along the way. (At least in my experience, it's been so helpful.) I hope I can learn to pass on the favour, lovingly "pointing the world back" to Christ, as your lyric say.

This is an open discussion, being so, I'm open to other people's opinions! However, please keep the discussion nice and if you'd like to critique something, please do it tactfully! I.E-instead of "I hate that outfit!" putting, "I think the outfit is a bit miss matched, however I like ___."
Your comments are so appreciated-you rock!
