What I Wear-Stripes And 3 Shades of Blue

 I'm Wearing: Striped Shirt-Herbergers, Scarf-made by me!, Skirt-Thrifted, Boots-Go Jane, Hat-Forever21
I don't know if it's just the blogs that I personally read, but lately I've been feeling as though nobody wears real clothes. My personal understanding was that modest fashion blogging's core purpose is to encourage each other to strive for fashionable modesty. None of us have the same standards, skirt lengths vary and sleeve lengths are negotiable. But we all agree on one thing; blogging is to show women-by example-how to dress modestly in a world that has thrown caution to the wind and discretion out the door. Lately the only people posting have been 5" heeled women who live in some sunny place where they wear sleeveless dresses and shirts, pretending to be cold. I guess it's just reaffirmed to me why I'm posting on this blog-for you. I'm not saying I'm "oh so stylish" or even "oh so practical"-on the contrary! On way too many occasion I second guess myself on outfits-does anyone really want to see what I wear? This outfits not really that cute, should I even post it? But then I realize, young women need encouragement! It's easy to feel like we're alone in our pursuit of modesty-that you're the only one who cares about your skirt length, or wearing a tank top under your shirt. But the truth is-YOU ARE NOT ALONE! There are hundreds-maybe even thousands of bloggers who are striving to dress modestly-I'm just one of them. I was happy to find this post of "Sunday Style" on Modern Modest Beauty of modest fashion! You should definitely check them out-some very lovely blogs!

Question-What inspires you to dress modestly?

  1. Such a cute outfit! Love your hat and shirt... AND your hair looks really pretty too!

I know what you mean! Even with my weekly outfit posts, it can get discouraging with the cold, my own style not always being the "norm", and wondering if anyone really cares what I wear! :-) God is pleased by our desire to encourage our sisters though and we can always rest in that.

    God bless!

  4. I live in one of those warm places but that creates it's own problems. Instead of people walking around in dresses, we have people walking around barely dressed like they are going to sit on the beach! I rarely see anyone wear dresses or heels. Dresses would be welcome, but the 5 in heels all the magazines are full of are completely impractical for everyday life. So I agree somewhat in that there really isn't much middle ground shown between sloppy or skimpy and too dressy or fancy.

  5. Hi Natasha!
Get prepared for the longest comment of a lifetime. For real. :P
I want to start out by saying thank you.

You aren't one of those fashion bloggers that seems to shout to the world, "Look at me! I'm always perfect! I never mess up! Everything in my life is fine! I never have problems! I always walk into my closet with tons of inspiration! I always go to bed at night with the excitement for a new day because I'm always perfect and my outfits always come together with such ease! I am always so full of happiness as I stare into my wardrobe with tons of cute clothes!" You're honest, and I thank you for that. Your honesty is what keeps me coming back over and over again.

Secondly, I'd like to say that I'm not one of those 90 pound 6 foot tall beautiful models. I'm 13 years old and 5 foot 3 and not strikingly gorgeous. I'm not the most attractive person on the earth, and that doesn't mean I can't post pictures of myself.

You are so strong in fashion. I love your unique style and taste, and you should never EVER stop posting. No matter how cruel people are to you or no matter how many insults they throw at you, always be strong in the Lord. You are such an encouragement to so many people- including myself!

I know that summing up the courage to show your outfits to the world of fashion bloggers (many of them immodest fashion no less) can be scary and discouraging. Don't give up! I'm sure that many people are counting on you to give them ideas on modesty that is simple yet cute.

I know some people need to put a bridle on their tongue and not always say whatever is on their mind about you or any other Christian bloggers. Choosing modesty is always best, no matter how many weird looks or rude comments you get. I'm sure that God is calling you to do the right thing.

I love your blog. Thank you so much for all the inspiration! Don't be discouraged if not everyone loves your blog. Ultimately, modest clothes choices should be between us and Christ, not us and whatever everybody else is doing.

    Merry CHRISTmas!

    Blessings,
    Andrea C.

Everyone is welcome here and I LOVE hearing from my readers! Thank you so much for taking the time to comment! I will try to get back as soon as possible with you if you ask a question, however if you'd like you may also email me at Atkersonfamily@aol.com

Here are a few comment guidelines:
This is an open discussion, being so, I'm open to other people's opinions! However, please keep the discussion nice and if you'd like to critique something, please do it tactfully! I.E-instead of "I hate that outfit!" putting, "I think the outfit is a bit miss matched, however I like ___."
Your comments are so appreciated-you rock!
