What I Wear-Doctor Who Inspired Wear (Military Style Leather Jacket)

9 comments:

Though I'm running the risk of seeming a bit obsessed with Doctor Who-this jacket is so Martha/Rose! No?
I scored this lovely military inspired leather jacket at a thrift store for $5.99! Unfortunately, I'm finding it a bit hard to style! It's sort of bluish-black-which I think makes it hard to style. How would you style this jacket?
I paired the jacket with a floral dress (also thrifted) as well as black leggings and boots from Go Jane. I also painted my nails with this awesome milk chocolate colored polish I got from (of all places) Walgreens!

So I'm going to post today, and you're going to pretend that I've posted on schedule...

umm...yeah...sorry ladies! Days keep slipping through my fingers, this week has been crazy! My brother and sister-in-law moved in with us on Monday (last week) and so we've been trying to get back to a regular schedule! My sleep pattern is wrecked still from daylight savings, and I haven't felt like posting lately. I actually wore this outfit Sunday.
We went to Helena today (yes it's pronounced hell-in-uh). It was nice to get out of the house! We visited Costco (like Sams Club), Goodwill and Macys. Before you judge me on the Macy's, I bought 3 shirts for $14.98! I've found that they have some fantastic sales! We also picked up some Turbo Jam DVDs (Exercise program) at Goodwill for $2 a piece! I believe they retail somewhere around $30 or so!

What I Wear- "Wow! I finally got an outfit posted!"

Hello, stranger! I have to apologize for falling off the face of the earth (or so it must seem to you!). Since it's Winters, I've been staying at home because of school. So I guess it's mental, but I haven't been able to put together a decent outfit in quite some time! My outfits lately have consisted of either sweats and a tee shirt, or Sunday outfits-Sunday outfits require rushing out the door with no time for pictures. So am I promising to post an outfit every day for the next week? mskfdndgknd....*scrambling* Oh! Sorry! I had to pick myself up off the floor from laughing so hard. *Chuckles* Yeah, no promises like that in my future. However, I will try to post more often-but not every day.

How was your Christmas? Mine was a bit unusual. Since Christmas was on a Sunday, we opened gifts  Christmas Eve. Uneventful, very little drama and lots of fun! It's been a tradition in our family to go to a movie on Christmas day (or around Christmas depending on when the movie comes out). This year we went to Tintin. It was fairly good, although the computer animation was amazing! There was several instances where I found myself thinking they were real people!

Since New Years Eve is today (Saturday) we celebrated last night, instead of staying up late the night before church. Celebrating translates into: junk food-coming-out-our-ears-till-we-sit-around-on-the-couches-feeling-disgusting. Seriously? Why do I DO THAT! Anyway, we had a nutritious brunch today-whole wheat pancakes sweetened with honey (made by yours truly), fruit salad (patience made), breakfast potatoes and turkey with mushrooms (mom made). We're trying to eat healthier in small bursts-adding more fruits and vegetables to begin with. So this pretty much sums up what you've missed! : )

How was your Christmas?

What I Wear- 40's Style Dress With Peach Skirt & Modesty Temptation

"No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it."  1 Corinthians 10:13
I'm going to start this post of with an ever shocking detail- I'm not perfect! Umm..okay..so it's not that shocking! It's actually common knowledge when I think about it. I have a question I want to pose to you-have you ever been tempted? How about tempted to dress in a manner that isn't so modest? I know I have. I think we make a choice every time we enter the closet to look at our wardrobes. Maybe this morning you were tempted to put on that skirt you know is too short. But you didn't. Is it a sin to be tempted? The answer-no! The temptation itself isn't a sin, it's acting on the temptation that is sinful.
"Opportunity make knock only once, but temptation leans on the doorbell." Author Unknown

When we dress in a manner that isn't pleasing to God, we cause guys to be tempted. Do we want someone to sin, just so we can wear that less than modest item? Is it worth it? Yes, you might get a bit more attention. But is it the right kind of attention? Take for instance my outfit today. By my standards, this outfit wouldn't be appropriate without a skirt underneath. I feel the hemline would be way too short. Thus I make the decision to put a skirt under my dress every time I wear it.
Shocking detail number 2, modest dress doesn't end when you marry! Just because you have a ring on your finger, doesn't mean your any less of a temptation for guys! So next time your in "modesty temptation" make the extra effort to dress modestly. If we practice to dress modestly now, it won't be nearly as hard when we're older, or married, to dress modestly. To all of the ladies out their in blog world striving to dress in a modest manner- THANK YOU! You rock!

What I Wear- Vintage Thrifted Dress

Hey everyone! I finally did it! Can you guess what? I'll give you a hint, it's on my forehead! If you can't guess, you shouldn't be reading my blog. *GRIN*
Anyway, for those of you who didn't guess (and yes, I was joking about not reading my blog) I cut my bangs! I started out with side bangs-not really bangs per-say, but really just the 'I'm intending on cutting my bangs and I'm a chicken' kind. So I now have bangs! I like them! My mom cut them for me, and I'm pleased with the effect.
This is the dress I told all of you about in my last post. Other than the length-easily fixed with another skirt-It fits me perfectly! I couldn't be happier. However, I found out that I don't pay very close attention to the things I buy at Goodwill! I went to try on the 'dress' turned out it was a culotte jumper thingy! So my mom told me just to cut the legs, and I stitched it back up and 'voila! A dress! I was trying to decided if I wanted to keep it culottes, but then just decided that was dumb since I wear dresses all the time anyways, and culottes aren't really more modest than a dress. And my little sister pointed out this morning that it would be really hard to go to the bathroom in culottes!

What I'm Wearing- Thrifted 80's/40's style Vintage Dress-Break Loose ($3) White Skirt-Thrifted ($3) Mary Jane Shoes-6PM ($30)

So I'm happy with my bangs, except that half my family thinks I now resemble a hippy, and the other half think I look like when I was 5. Which is better? Oh well...that's family for you! Can't live with 'em, can't without 'em!
And here are some close up shots of the button details on the front of the dress, as well as the broach I'm wearing.

A Question About Skirts From My Reader

1 comment:

Dear Vanessa, thanks for asking! Your question was such a good one, I decided to do a post on it! To be honest with you, I'm a total cheapskate when it comes to clothes! I believe in being frugal, and being good stewards of the things, and money, God has entrusted us with. I don't think I have a single skirt that I paid retail for! Now don't get me wrong, you can get retail clothes for cheaper than thrift store prices sometimes with sales! But my style is the kind that is more...unique! I like to have pieces that others don't have, and I don't have to worry about seeing someone in the mall with my shirt on!

Tips For Finding Skirts
Really, my only advice to finding skirts at thrift shops, PATIENCE! You won't go into a thrift shop and find something every time. It may not be the right size, color, or kind of skirt you want.

Other Places To Find Skirts
You have the Internet, USE IT! : ) The Internet can be a great thing! Here are some links to Google shopping to get you started:

What If A Skirt I Find Is Too Short?
I stumbled across this website a few months ago:
Vintage Hem
While some of their products are expensive, they have some on sale for $10.
Or if your a seamstress you could make one! I'm hoping to make one very soon, and perhaps share a tutorial!

OR....
Again, if your a seamstress you can add strips of fabric to the hem!
Or repurpose a skirt, that might include 'stacking' two short skirts to make a longer one.

What I Wear- Thrifty and Chic! Modest fashion show- Day 3

3 comments:
Hey everyone! So we (my mom, sister and I) really worked hard today trying to get some "fashion shoot" photos, worthy for your eyes to see! I think some of them came out really good! Or at least better than normal! I want to make it a goal to take better photos. Lately I've been hating my pictures, I don't know if its because of my clothes that day, or what, but no more! I did find out that I need to just relax and have fun! Which helps when you have a crazy sister! She tried to show me up in every photo with her "posing ability's" too funny...
For this fashion post, my lovely sister is joining me! With her amazing ability's in front of the camera, who can ignore her? LOL! We will keep working on our photos, let me know if you have any ideas for posing, or hints and tips. They would be greatly appreciated!
The weather was gorgeous today (its starting to be a bit cloudy right now) But its supposed to be 70's the rest of the week! Which is awesome! I love being outside, and indoor photos are not my specialty!

I really appreciate the response I've been getting about the fashion show, and everything else! Maybe people are listening after all....
Don't forget to tell all your friends (this includes family, and online friends!) about the fashion show, and get them to join!
